This new year will mark a
turning point in the international order. Increasingly, a wall is
being built between democracies and totalitarianism masked by
nationalism with the support of Russia and China. The democracies of
the world look to the United States as the only democracy capable of
defending itself and guaranteeing the defense of its allies. What is
least needed at the beginning of the year are messianic messages and
rowdy bravado with other democracies. The United States leads the
democratic world, the only way to guarantee peace and prosperity,
restore harmony and international cooperation in the face of the two
great challenges of this century such as climate change and space
conquest. Unfortunately, everything has been devastated by the crisis
that has allowed a return to fascist and communist ideologies with
votes in electoral processes as is happening in Europe, which is one
day moving further towards a continental war and where the Russian
regime finds support within the the European Union. The confirmation
of the presence of North Korean troops represents a medium-term
threat to the democracies of the Pacific Rim where China continues to
advance militarily to be the power in the area, threatening South
Korea and Japan. North Korea is sending troops that upon their return
will serve to train new recruits with no other purpose than, when the
time comes, to attack South Korea.
The
democracies of the American continent also look to the United States
with hope despite Russian interference in the media with a populist
discourse camouflaged by indigenism and the economic influence of
China. In Venezuela the democratic process has been corrupted and the
Bolivarian dictatorship tries to perpetuate itself in power, Cuba is
at the limit of what is bearable for Cuban citizens and Nicaragua has
become a personalist dictatorship. This is not the time for the
United States to take refuge in isolationism and build retaining
walls that separate families and break dreams of freedom. Imperial
messages belittling the democracies allied to the United States
weaken us as a democracy and make us distrust our mutual defense
commitments. The end result will be a totalitarian world encircling
the United States and its citizens divided and opposed.
The
United States does not wage wars because of religion or territorial
imperialism, it has always been in the name of democracy. In the Cold
War it was necessary to ally with dictatorships because the
alternative was the expansion of the Soviet empire. The 21st century
has not given a truce with economic crises, the expansion of Islamic
terrorism and Russian totalitarianism attacking neighboring
countries. Only the United States has the capacity to protect and
defend maritime routes and international trade, that is not
imperialism, it is supporting the democratic world and exercising
that leadership carries a responsibility for whoever occupies the
presidency. And if egomania, the thirst for power and feeling chosen
by the divine hand are going to dictate the policies of the United
States, Congress must take the necessary measures to depose those who
believe and act under that egomania, thirst for power and feeling
like a messiah. deceiving the electorate and their religious beliefs.
God Bless America
