The year that begins today will test the ability of
democracy to overcome the dangers that threaten it as a result of the
global pandemic. The United States and its allies are
enduring tensions within their democracy that hinder common actions
that make us lead the war against coronavirus. We must add the rise
of populisms that have demonstrated and demonstrate every day and at
all hours their uselessness to reach solutions as happens with
totalitarianisms when they come to power. It is at this high point in
the situation derived from the global pandemic and its consequences
that the United States must once again be the arsenal of democracies.
It is not an arsenal of weapons, the biological warfare that we have
to live requires the weapons of common health policy and global
extension, guaranteeing energy supply routes, economic measures and
free trade that bring prosperity to the world's societies and that
they can enjoy. of democracy in their countries.
The
United States and its European and NATO allies suffer daily
provocations from the Russian government, which does not hesitate to
deploy armies and issue threats. China continues its expansion and
military presence with the intention of interfering on the borders of
our allies in the Pacific. Today more than ever in this century,
democracy fights on several fronts but if humanity manages to
overcome the global pandemic, the next day will be the one to return
to life and we will have to face great challenges and learn from the
lessons that we are learning by marching. forced, although it is
something we already knew: democracy must defend itself when it is
endangered, whoever the aggressor is, be it a virus or a totalitarian
power.
The republics of the American continent also suffer the scourge of
populism and demagoguery, trying to hide the shame of their leaders
under flags such as indigenism, denying the Hispanic era and leading
to fascist dictatorships as happens in Nicaragua, Venezuela or Cuba
waving the banner of communism, which only covers the reality of
poverty and stagnation, if not the decline of its civil society.
Economic progress, progress in democracy, with its freedoms, must
count without fissures with the support of the United States and the
European nations with a past in the history of the Americas.
Interferences by foreign powers that support populist dictatorships
are intolerable and seriously distort the progress of the entire
continent.
It
is necessary that the citizens living in a democracy be made aware
that the sanitary measures that are ordered must be complied with,
starting with vaccination. We are facing a turning point, it will be
necessary to renounce individual rights for the benefit of the
collective good without distinctions of any kind. Ideally, the
different nations of the world would forget their differences to
fight a common enemy. Unfortunately, the facts show that far from
that union in the struggle, totalitarian regimes, nationalisms and
populisms penetrate deeper into the minds than the evidence of the
numbers of deaths, infections, economic and social crisis, all this
goes deeper than announcements of sanitary measures. You have to
start with the United States and lead the free world against the
pandemic. It is a global problem that requires global solutions such
as vaccines for all without distinction, rich countries must show
solidarity, help manage medical resources and lay the foundations for
a basic health service on the African continent. And the only
democracy that can lead the way to victory against the pandemic is
the United States and its allies.
God bless America
