WHICH FINGER HURTS LESS?

You take a map and draw lines

without caring that this map

speaks of lives, of homes

and those lines are borders

that separate and divide

lives, homes

You demand that Ukraine cut off its fingers

as if having the rest were enough

to quell the rage of the offense

and the insult of the invader demanding

and imposing what it cannot win

in the hard battle where its forces fail

Which fingers would you cut off?

Would you get down on your knees,

stretch out your arm, extending

your hands, offering your fingers

and be satisfied?

Ukraine is more than a map

where you draw lines that are

false borders, open wounds

oozing the blood of its children

killed in battle against the invader

It will not be peace, it will be a truce

that will break when tyranny

feels strong again

and then, only then,

too late, poorly, and never

will you be able to understand

what you now

refuse to see
